New Tier 4 restrictions
As a response to the rapid rise in Covid cases due to what is believed to be a new strain of the virus, the Government has announced new Tier 4 restrictions for areas including Greater London. A stay-at-home order has been issued to all in London and the wider South East, meaning you are unable to mix with anyone from outside your household. All Non-essential retail will be required to close and people are advised to avoid travelling into and out of Tier 4. The earliest these rules will be reviewed by the Government is on 30 December 2020.
We know the great lengths that those working in the retail and hospitality sectors have gone to in recent weeks and months to keep themselves and those around them safe with the use of stringent social distancing and other safety measures. It has been incredibly heartening to see businesses across villages adhering to the Government’s guidelines to enable safety for all our visitors, and I understand how disappointing this news will be to many. However, we would urge everyone to fully comply with the guidance issued by the Government and as ever, Shaftesbury’s priority will remain to be supporting all our businesses and residents throughout what will be a challenging festive period. We know the final weeks of 2020 and the first weeks of the New Year will be challenging, but we remain confident that in 2021 the West End will recover from the effects of the pandemic and we are looking forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to the West End safely in 2021.
